چکیده
A novel method for capturing two-dimensional, thin, under-resolved material configurations, known as “filaments,” is presented in the context of interface reconstruction. This technique uses a partitioning ∗Work supported in part by the National Science Foundation under contract DMS 1016381. †This work of M. Multimaterial Interface Reconstruction from the Moment Data
The new Moment-of-Fluid (MoF) technique effectively overcomes the limitations of the VoF approach by utilizing more data: in addition to the volumes, the cell-wise material centroids (the first moments) are used. In [3] we presented the two-material MoF algorithm, which locates the linear interface in a mixed cell by minimizing the defect of the first moment over all the cell partitions that pr...
متن کاملCompressible, multiphase semi-implicit method with moment of fluid interface representation
A unified method for simulating multiphase flows using an exactly mass, momentum, and energy conserving Cell-Integrated SemiLagrangian advection algorithm is presented. The deforming material boundaries are represented using the moment-of-fluid method. The new algorithm uses a semi-implicit pressure update scheme that asymptotically preserves the standard incompressible pressure projection meth...
متن کاملCoupling an Eulerian Fluid Calculation to a Lagrangian Solid Calculation with the Ghost Fluid Method
We propose a numerical method for modeling multimaterial flows where the domain is decomposed into separate Eulerian and Lagrangian subdomains. That is, the equations are written in Eulerian form in one subdomain and Lagrangian form in the other subdomain. This is of interest, for example, when considering the effect of underwater explosions on the hull of a ship or the impact of a low speed pr...
متن کاملAn Effective Three Dimensional MMALE Method for Compressible Fluid Dynamics
An effective second-order three-dimensional unstructured multimaterial arbitrary Lagrangian– Eulerian (MMALE) method was presented for compressible fluid dynamics, which uses Moment of Fluid (MOF) method to reconstruct material interface for immiscible fluids. It is of the explicit time-marching Lagrange plus remap type. Comparing with traditional ALE method, MMALE method permits multimaterials...
متن کاملComputational Simulation of Hydrodynamic Convection in Rising Bubble Under Microgravity Condition
In this work, rising of a single bubble in a quiescent liquid under microgravity condition was simulated. The related unsteady incompressible full Navier-Stokes equations were solved using a conventional finite difference method with a structured staggered grid. The interface was tracked explicitly by connected marker points via hybrid front capturing and tracking method. One field approximatio...
